    Hello Marla,

My baby came early and is currently almost 36 weeks and in NICU doing well for the most part. The nurses are giving him enfamil human milk fortified which they add to my breast milk. They said it’s because my breast milk is not going to meet all his needs. The formula is full of harsh ingredients and fillers that even I dont eat. It is giving him tummy troubles and loose stools which to me means he is not even able to digest the nutrients in my milk. I am going to ask them to not give him that and I was wondering if there is anything else that I could add to my milk to increase its nutritional value without destroying my baby’s gut. I am currently on prenatal vitamins and fish capsules and eating very clean and healthy. Thanks!

    Hey!

I am so sorry to hear he is dealing with that! Unfortunately I cannot legally make recommendations without him being a client especially because he is so little (consent and all that would need to be signed). That being said, ensuring he is getting sufficient omega 3s (DHA and EPA), probiotics, vitamins and minerals through your milk is essential. at this point i recommend he gets it through your breastmilk by you supplementing. You’re doing great! I would add high dose probiotics to your diet along with a greens powder (douglas labs greens and reds) to really bulk up your milk with nutrition.
