ParticipantIs it possible to trigger a candida overgrowth if coming off the Candida protocol too soon or incorrectly?
I decided to try your candida cleanse (from your ebook) just to see if my overall health improves. My wife decided to accompany me on this. We are both pretty healthy and eat “clean” but she has had a few yeast infections in the past albeit not frequently. We have been on the candida cleanse protocol for 3 weeks. She decided to stop the supplements and anti-fungals few days before Christmas (stayed on Probiotics and Chlorella); I’m still continuing and plan to do at least 2-3 months total.
Back to her, overall we continued to eat very clean and low carb during Christmas; however, she did have some oatmeal here and there and a couple of pieces the nutella pastry (gluten & sugar) she made. That is the only sugar she had in the last month or so. Now it looks like she is developing a vaginal yeast infection. Is it possible she came off the protocol too soon or did something incorrectly? Any suggestions? I think she is a bit irritated for starting the cleanse now. 😮

KeymasterYes absolutely! When you stop a protocol too soon (just like a course of antibiotics), some of the yeast or pathogens you are trying to fight off will die however whatever has remained is now more resilient and “starving” so they will flare up quite quickly and are now more difficult to kill then before. If your wife got a yeast infection from eating that small amount of sugar, she definitely still has dysbiosis. Does this make sense and help?

ParticipantIt helps a lot. Thank you. What would be the best approach to help her at this point? Continue with the cleanse is my assumption to calm down her flare up. I know you can’t put an exact timeline on this but any approximate amount of time/treatment needed. I feel she’s disheartened by this and just can’t wait to go back to eating her occasional oatmeal, and some sweet threat here and there.

KeymasterYes i personally would continue the cleanse and pulse with charcoal and chlorella and drink LOTS of water. Usually it should run for a MINIMUM 90 days, sometimes longer depending on the degree of overgrowth.

ParticipantWanted to ask your opinion.
I originally had pretty bad seasonal allergies here in Austin and after I started eating cleaner, taking probiotics, and also moringa I swear my allergies have subsided very significantly. I practically had no issues last couple of years. However, this is one of the reasons why I wanted to try the candida and parasite cleanse from your book.
So I am 6 weeks into the candida cleanse now (planning to go at least 90 per your suggestion) and have been very good about not cheating. Only had some starchy carbs for Xmas meal and had a beer (:O ) on two occasions. Overall I think the cleanse is going well, but recently I feel like I am seeing a bit more adverse reactions or herxing if that’s what you call it. We’ve had crazy record high Cedar Oak (Austin seasonal allergen) levels recently due to temp changes and so I feel like my allergies have flared up again. Also I got some pimples, a couple on my neck but the rest mostly on my legs which is pretty weird. I am trying to understand this. Initially when I started the cleanse I did not get these (maybe got 1 or 2 pimples), is this because the cleanse is barely now kicking in? Does it have to do with a next layer of biofilms being broken down and the toxins barely starting to spew out in higher amounts. Also, is the kick up in allergies the result of the body dealing with the candida cleanse and not having enough resources to deal with both at the same time?
Any thoughts and suggestions on this would greatly be appreciate it. thank you.

KeymasterHey!
In order to truly reverse seasonal allergies, you need to modulate the immune system (downregulate Th2 and upregulate Th1) and decrease histamine. Eating cleaner, moringa, probiotics etc support Th1 immunity which is probably why you noticed you didnt have as many reactions. however they would be temporary as your allergies would come back due to not fully modulating the immune system.
As far as the candida cleanse goes, the longer you’re on a cleanse, the more toxins are released so your body is most likely eliminating deeper toxins and perhaps parasites are being killed off or some stubborn yeast triggering a bit of a flare. you can do charcoal or chlorella as a binder to minimize the reactions. The allergies MIGHT be flaring up due to a bit more inflammation in the system from the candida cleanse.
At the end of the day, the candida cleanse can help to decrease the severity of seasonal allergies however to truly eliminate them, you need to fully reduce histamine and do immune modulation 🙂
Does all this make sense? Did i answer your question?

ParticipantMarla thanks for the response. I think I know how to approach the TH1 modulation. Read both your blog articles on Th1/TH2 and the TH17 ones. Very good and informative. I can focus on your suggestions to take: glutathione, chlorella, med mushrooms, TH1 support (pure encapsulations), NAC. Perhaps a little bit of reseveratrol and green tea (even though they stimulate TH2). As far as histamine I am not as clear here: I know I can take quercetin and avoid high histamine foods.
If you have any basic hints/ protocols on how to do both TH1 modulation and reduce histamine I would appreciate it. Also roughly how long we talking about? 3-6 months?Thank You so much for all the advice and info

KeymasterHello! typically upregulating Th1 and downregulating Th2 is how you would manage histamine. That being said, taking DAO enzyme, activated charcoal, Methylation Support, and like you said, avoiding histamine forming foods can also help! Glutathione is great for histamine as is resveratrol so taking those remedies can help. Berberine and perilla are also very powerful immune modulator’s which can give you further results. Does this help?

ParticipantMarla,
Thank you. My allergies have chilled out and I am doing well. I can feel them a bit from time to time when we have mold and or cedar spikes but very manageable (and obviously no allergy meds :). I added the TH1 and Methylation support and hoping that along with other things has helped.
To continue… I am now on day 91 of the candida cleanse :). It’s been hard but I am pretty stubborn so no issues sticking to it. I still have some pimples pop up from time to time either on my legs or even face/forehead. Since I didn’t have any major issues before I can’t really gage if it is time to stop, but I feel well I am hoping 3months plus is enough. Looking to stop in the next few days and start on your Leaky Gut protocol.
Few questions, in your repair phase (Phase II) you mention to stop eating nuts which was ok in candida cleanse stage. Is this all nuts & seeds or is some nut butter/flour ok? I grew really fond of the almond flour/arrowroot bread. Also, not 100% clear if it is ok to add a little bit of things such as: mushrooms, coconut yogurt, raw sheep/goat cheese, and lentils at this stage or should I wait with those until the Repopulate phase.
Appreciate the feedback.

KeymasterHey! glad to hear things are going well! So the pimples popping up here and there could mean you need more liver support so try adding in more of that including binders, lots of water, sweating (saunas, hot baths, exercising) etc 🙂
For the leaky gut phase, you dont want ANY lectins, i would say cut out ALL nuts but things like sunbutter or pumpkin seed butter would be ok. mushrooms, coconut yogurt would be ok but i wouldnt do lentils or any grains. essentially youre eating mainly protein, cooked organic veggies, healthy fats from avocado, coconut, seed butters and oils and carbs coming from berries, carrots, peas, small amount of sweet potato, squash, etc.
I would avoid goat/sheep cheese until you get to the replenish phase (phase 3), after leaky gut phase. does that answer all your questions?

ParticipantSo just to be sure, is a some of blanched almond flour ok here and there or hold off until phase III?
I’m good with everything else. Thank you again; I really appreciate the feedback.
