Hi marla sorry one more questions.

I read somewhere that Astragalus shouldn’t be taken when you have an autoimmune disease but I see you promoting it so was just wondering if we should take it or not if we have autoimmune? thanks so much.

People who don’t understand how the immune system works will say to not use Astragalus.
They think that the immune system goes up and down meaning if you have autoimmune disease, you want your immune system to go down, so it doesn’t attack your own tissue. This is a very old and simplistic way of thinking about the immune system and frankly, is very inaccurate.

The immune system is not this simple. It has many different players doing different things.
Astragalus promotes Natural Killer cells with lead to more IFNgamma which leads to inhibition of Th17 cell production of IL-17 a and f, IL-21, IL-22. When the levels of these inflammatory cytokines go down, Autoimmunity is reduced.
So, astragalus is very appropriate in autoimmune diseases and should be taken.
