Vitiligo is a chronic skin condition characterized by patches of the skin losing their pigment (aka melanocytes). The patches of skin affected become white and usually have sharp margins. The hair from the skin may also become white. The inside of the mouth and nose may also be involved. Most vitiligo cases are triggered by a virus and once the virus is eliminated, you can sometimes slow the progression of the disease.
Like any autoimmune disease, you need to get to the root cause of the condition. There is always immune dysregulation which leads to tissue destruction. A few factors that trigger immune dysregulation are:
1. Chronic pathogenic imbalance (candida, viruses, parasites, etc)
2. Inflammatory diet (burgers, fries, sugars, etc) which destroys the body and weakens the immune system
3. Medications (NSAIDS, Pain killers, steroids, birth control, etc)
4. Chronic stress (working too much, rushing around, anxiety, etc)
5. Poor sleep (going to bed too late, difficulty sleeping, unable to get REM sleep, etc)
6. Exposure to toxic chemicals in beauty products, makeup, deodorants, shampoo and conditioner, body washes, detergents, dish-soap, dryer sheets, etc.
7. Mold Exposure (at work or in a damp basement, poor circulation in the home, visible mold on windows, showers curtains, etc)
8. Genetics. Our DNA plays a major role in our risk for developing autoimmune conditions. If your parents or grandparents had autoimmune, you have a higher risk of developing it too if you do not live a healthy lifestyle.
9. Alcohol consumption. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure a glass of wine here or there wont be enough to create inflammation however if you’re drinking quite often, you might want to consider putting down the bottle for a while until you can get the inflammation under control. Alcohol contains sulphites, sugars, and other inflammatory ingredients that strain the liver and excite the immune system which can then lead to tissue destruction.
10. EMF Exposure. Do you sleep with your cellphone by your bed? Do you have your phone on you at all times? Do you work or live near cellphone towers or hydro lines? EMFs disrupt the way our cells work. They damage them over time which mans your body becomes very inefficient at detoxifying and functioning. this leads to pre-mature aging and chronic inflammation.
11. Poor liver and kidney function. Not being able to eliminate toxins via urine and stool means your body holds onto the toxicity which causes inflammation and chronic disease/damage overtime.
There are many more triggers for Vitiligo but certainly the first thing you want to start doing immediately is homeopathic liver and kidney drainage to begin re-balancing the system. You also need to do a good bacterial cleanse such as a candida and parasites cleanse and also being working on eliminating biofilms and viruses once the body can handle it. It is best to work with a practitioner to make sure you are doing the protocols safely and effectively so you don’t further damage the body. Vitiligo is not curable (no autoimmune conditions are) however you can stop the skin pigment destruction by eliminating the inflammation and rebalancing the immune system (Th1, Th2 and Th17 immune cells).
Supplements
Here is a basic protocol you might want to consider starting however always check with your practitioner before beginning any remedies to make sure they wont interfere with underlying health conditions or medication you are currently on. You can do this protocol for 8 weeks straight however this is just a basic protocol and with an autoimmune condition, you need to continue treatment for several months to a couple years to fully detoxify and rebalance the system. Follow package directions for everything and remember to never take supplements without checking with your doctor first.
For the liver: Begin biotherapeutic drainage (UNDER RESOURCES TAB) using UNDA 1, UNDA 20 and UNDA 243 along with Black current bud
For dysbiosis: Genestra Candaclear Four, Genestra N-acteyl-cysteine, Genestra liquid chlorophyll
For Inflammation: Pure Encapsulations CurcumaSorb, Pure encapsulations Coriolus extract, Genestra Astragalus Combination #1
For Digestion: Practice food combining, consider taking Betine HCl if needed, avoid drinking fluids with meal time and take an enzyme such as Genestra digest plus,
Gemmotherapies: UNDA Juniperus communis & Platanus orientalis for the skin (begin this 4 weeks INTO the protocol to give the liver and kidneys a head start)
Diet
Avoid all refined sugars and starches as well as hydrogenated oils. Also avoid nightshades, gluten, dairy, peanuts, yeast, fermented food, and pork.
Eat a diet rich in leafy green vegetables, healthy fats from avocado, nuts, seeds, coconut, and wild caught fish. Eat plenty of fiber from chia and ground flax, fresh fruit in the form of berries, green apples, and grapefruit and protein from organic chicken and grass-fed beef. For sweetener, use organic stevia, yacon syrup or a small amount or organic local raw honey.
You will want to follow this diet lifelong however as you begin to improve, you can slowly add in some foods from the “no” list overtime.
Disclaimer: this is NOT a complete protocol fro Vitiligo… always work with a practitioner to get complete tailored support for your condition.
