    Hi there,

I have been suffering from leaky gut, candida and food allergies for the past two years, resulting in hives and rashes throughout my face.

About a year ago, I took a blood test and a host of food allergies were revealed to me. As a result, I eliminated the culprits such as dairy, wheat, red meat, soy, legumes, alcohol, sugar and many more out of my diet. I cleaned out my diet and started taking supplements such as probiotics, l-glutamine and a candida remover. Within approx 3 months, all my rashes and hives went away, and did not exhibit any symptoms for 4 months.

Unfortunately, after 4 months, all the symptoms resurfaced. Not sure exactly what caused it, however, did have a few cheat meals of french fries here and there thinking my gut had been healed. I was also taking oregano oil quite aggressively thinking I should remain proactive by continuing to eradicate the candidate. However, I think what I ended up doing was kill off a bunch of bad bacteria in addition to the good bacteria, causing significant dysbiosis to my gut.

Currently, I am taking a new kind of probiotic which is spore based (MegaSporeBiotic), MegaMucosa to help rebuild my mucosa and omega3 fish oil. I am no longer taking oregano oil, and remain consuming a very clean diet without my allergen foods. In addition, I have incorporated intermittent fasting. I have been following all these protocols since my hives resurfaced for the past three months, with no avail. The rashes and hives continue to resurface on my face. My naturopath physician is at a lost as to what’s going on. Marla, can you please offer some insight as to what’s happening and what else can be done? I’m feeling very discouraged…

    Hello Kate,

Hives are from too much histamine which is usually triggered by Th2 dominance. Th2 dominance gets triggered by chronic pathogenic imbalance (aka candida, parasites, etc). I am not sure if you follow me on instagram (@marlashealthylife) but I just made an IGTV on biofilms and why candida and other pathogens keep coming back after a cleanse. Biofilms prevent pathogens from fully being eradicated so after a few weeks or months after a cleanse, it is VERY common to get regrowth again.

Oregano oil on its own is not ideal for a long period of time or at a high dosage.

You wont be able to clear up yur hives/rash until you get back on antifungals and lower carb diet. I also highly suggest doing the biotherapeutic drainage under the RESOURCES tab alongside your candida cleanse.

let me know if you have further questions.

I heard using charcoal is good to help bind out the toxins as I’m trying to restore my gut flora. What are you thoughts, and is there a brand you’d recommend?

Charcoal can be great… I am also a fan of chlorella!

Any brand of charcoal is OK as long as it is Organic. i use Organika personally (same thing for chlorella).

Based on my condition, how long do you recommend I take charcoal for?

Kate, unfortunately there is not way I could legally advise you on this without you being a client and doing intake and assessment forms. There are so many factors to consider for each individual person. i would suggest starting with a small amount of time (a week or 2).

I got a question here about hives. My mom has been battling with itching for months and she always would think is bug bites or flees from my dog. Just last week she began growing hives and by the day it got worse and worse. Her arms and legs sides of her tummy are filled with hives. She has been using oats, drinking nettle tea, vitamin C & quercetin. Which only help a tiny bit. She went to the doctor already, hospital and urgent care. On top of that she has very high blood pressure. I know though, correct me if I am wrong having high blood p has nothing to do with dealing with hives. Hives is more like a allergic reaction to something such as foods (all you list above in the message), things such as soap, makeup, hair dyes etc. I know along with the liver! I’m I right? Do you think giving my mom bile or hcl maybe both can help? She drinks a lot of green juices she makes them herself all organic.

I know my mom needs to stick to a very low carb diet only having quinoa, maybe lentils and some low sugar fruit as in blueberries, strawberries, berries and grapefruit or no?

What are your thoughts on having more protein and minimum of fat with lots of veggies for people with hives? It depends on the person right?

My mom will get labwork done and from there will see how her liver enzyme is.

Do you know any tips as of dealing with hives or safe lotions? I let my mom use the Shoosha fragrance free lotion and it does not flare her. Do you know anything else?

every symptom in the body is always connected. most likely the reason she has high BP is also one of the many reasons she has hives.

Low carb diet is important but also low histamine diet. she NEEDs a food sensitivity test as there are definitely things she is eating that would trigger hives. Animal protein contains histidine so she should be eating a more alkaline, plant-based, lower carb cantiinflamamtory diet.
