ParticipantHey Marla! I have been taking Ginestra probiotics 500 billion CFU’s for a little over a year now and I have been doing great on them. I had a lymphatic massage in my legs and ever since then I have been having what feels like a histamine reaction in my body every time I take it. I know that some probiotic strains can cause a raise in histamine & I have not been able to take them for many years. However, I was always able to handle these probiotics perfectly fine until now. What would be the cause for me to all of a sudden start having a reaction to them?

KeymasterHey! Have you had a chance to listen to this podcast episode on probiotics? You might get your question answered 🙂 https://www.spreaker.com/user/17053081/episode-10-everything-you-didnt-know-abo
Essentially, certain strains are a bit histamine forming but also the body the can react to probiotics when there is high histamine present already as it views everything as harmful when the immune system is off balance 🙂

ParticipantI did listen to the podcast. I am still confused. I didn’t think the probiotics I was taking had histamine forming probiotics in it for the Ginestra 500 billion are there any probiotics out there that you would recommend that I could take that wouldn’t have the histamine forming probiotics?

KeymasterDue to the elevated inflammation form the massage, your body could have formed a resistance the probiotic (temporarily) as it is fighting back against anything thinking it is a pathogen/toxin/invader. this happens when there is immune dysregulation. The body starts reacting to something that before wasn’t an issue and that is completely harmless. This reaction typically goes away once the histamine is greatly decreased and immune system more regulated again.

ParticipantOh ok! That’s scary! How long do people usually flare up after a lymphatic massage?

KeymasterIts so different for everyone as your body needs to break down/degrade the immune and mast cells. The more there are the longer it takes. Ive seen some feel better after a week or so and others take months. The more inflamed you are and the more immune dysregulation you ahve, the longer it takes. Unfortunately there is no specific answer sorry!! are you feeling any better since?
