    hello Marla,

Is there anything that could be done during pregnancy to avoid excessive postpartum hairfall?

    Thanks!

    Hello!

Yes keeping hormones stable and estrogen balanced is the key! Postpartum hairloss only occurs when hormones are not balanced. We have very high levels of estrogen and progesterone during pregnancy (hence the luscious hair and pregnancy “glow”) but those levels plummet significantly after birth and the first few initial weeks postpartum. Keeping estrogen levels sufficient for a healthy milk supply and to prevent mood swings, depression, etc is the ley.

I suggest consuming lots of flax and chia seeds, eating plenty of cruciferous veggies, keeping starchy carbs and sugars to a minimum and then supplementing with liver capsules such as TLIP from Genestra. I also recommend doing all these postpartum as well but then adding in herbs to help support healthy estrogen levels such as moringa, lemon balm and chastetree berry (only take this if you have low estrogen). Lastly, supporting thyroid both during and after pregnancy is essential with ashwaghanda or Genestra Hpo-gen (only if thyroid is underactive).
