ParticipantI am wondering if you might point me in the direction of research discussing the specific immune response to Bartonella spp. and Babesia spp. infections?
Are these infections primarily due to low Th1 / high-Th17 immune response? and are they driven by decreased innate immunity? Also, are there particular immunological tests that you recommend to track tick-borne infections since the microbial testing (even PCR) tend to be unreliable? I heard about IGeneX being good and a couple of others, but do you recommend any particular cytokine panels or tests like CD57 for tracking purposes? I am asking because a relative of mine has all the Lyme disease symptoms but tests keep coming back negative and I didn’t see any youtube videos of yours on this topic.

KeymasterHello! great questions! I didnt post any YouTube videos on Lyme because it is HIGHLY controversial.
Great resources to understand the pathogenesis of both Bartonella and Babesia are from Stephen Buhner books. He has books on all the Lyme coinfections.

Th1 immune cells do the heavy lifting in the adaptive immune response to Lyme. Basophils are the first responders. When you see basophil elevation and you don’t know why it’s there, consider testing for Lyme. You can have her ask her doctor about this.
Unfortunately no immune marker is pathognomonic for any target. The markers don’t tell you it’s Lyme, or mold, or anything else specific. They just tell you the immune system is reacting, not what it’s reacting against. Once you figure out what the immune system is reacting against, by other methods, you can use these markers to understand something about how the process is going. Definitely supporting your Th1 immune system is important.
Unfortunately I dont have much more to share with you as this is not my area of expertise and I am not a doctor. All the info I shared here is based off scientific research, not my own opinion.
